About me

My journey from learning piano in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne to becoming the musician I am today.

Lesley Yim is an accomplished pianist and dedicated music educator based in Melbourne. A graduate of both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, he is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne. Lesley has studied under the guidance of esteemed pianists Caroline Almonte, Stephen McIntyre AM, and Steinway artist Ian Holtham.

Throughout his career, Lesley has performed in a wide range of settings, including solo recitals, chamber music concerts, concerto appearances and as an associate artist. His performances have taken him across Melbourne and Europe, earning him recognition and numerous accolades. Lesley has performed under conductors Douglas Heywood OAM, Marius Stravinsky and Alessandro Alonzi. Notable achievements include third prize at the Boroondara Concerto Competition and first prize at the Kayserburg International Youth Competition – Australia.

Lesley has also been honoured with multiple scholarships from the University of Melbourne, including the Rosemarie Kenny Prize, the Mona McCaughey Scholarship, the Grace Funston Scholarship, the Mary Elizabeth McComas Scholarship and the prestigious Phyllis Judd/Therese de Kretser Scholarship.

A frequent performer on 103.5 Fine Music Melbourne, Lesley is passionate about music education. He maintains a busy teaching schedule, where he is committed to inspiring and mentoring the next generation of musicians. Through his work, he hopes to contribute to both the music community and the wider arts world, sharing his expertise with fellow musicians and fostering a collaborative spirit.
